FROM THE PARISH PRIEST
Can You Believe It!?
by Fr. Romey Rosco
Recently, a local school board had to "require" students to recite the
Pledge of Allegiance to the flag each day before classes.
The principal of the local high school was against the ruling, along with
some parents, teachers and students, stating that "the daily recital (of
the pledge) would soon become trivial and mundane for the students."
"Let's allow them to demonstrate patriotism with actions, not merely
with words," the principal said.
How about words and actions?
How would it be if we all went to our various churches regularly and said
nothing? Would that be okay, as long
as we do charitable works and act Christian, Muslim or Hebrew towards one
another? Would our young people ever
know The Lords Prayer, for example, if they were never called upon to say it?
The
same should apply to the Pledge.
"O Lord, open my lips and my mouth will show forth Your
praise!" (Ps. 50:15)
"My country 'tis of thee….I sing!"
