Ignorance

        What a terrible thing it is to be ignorant of one’s Orthodox Faith!  No Orthodox Christian can possibly claim to be truly wise if he or she is ignorant of his Church, its Founder, its teachings and sacraments.

        Imagine an Orthodox child growing up in a home where Sunday is a day like any other; where the Bible is never read; where prayers are never said; where the names of Christ and the saints are never spoken with reverence!  That child goes through life ignorant of the most significant facts of world history.  He is ignorant of the most influential book ever written.  Ignorant of any relationship and dialogue with the Lord.  Ignorant of the most influential Person who ever lived – Jesus Christ.  Ignorant of the most powerful force for good in the world today – the Holy Spirit.  Ignorant of his or her own hope for salvation!

        If we parents are not concerned about our children’s spiritual upbringing, what does that say about our own wisdom?  And what hope can our children have?

        Make worship and Orthodox Christian education important in their young lives, and they will value it when it can help them the most.  They will honor you for it.

        “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he grows old, he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6)
