The Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop IRINEU, assisted by several clergy. Bishop IRINEU commemorates the departed, including the newly-departed Fr. John.
The Consecration of the Gifts. "Holy Things are for the Holy!" In keeping with the tradition of the Church, Fr. John was buried in full vestments, holding the Holy Gospel book and cross.
The Funeral Service for the Burial of a Priest followed the Divine Liturgy. In addition to the hierarchs, there were 12 priests and 2 deacons taking part in the Funeral Service. Bishop IRINEU officiated the Funeral Service with His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL attending at the throne.
Archbishop NATHANIEL reads the prayer of final absolution. Fr. Romey Rosco, parish priest & successor to Fr. John after his retirement in 1980, delivers the eulogy. His Eminence reflects on the life and work of Fr. John, offering words of comfort to the family.
Everyone in attendance comes forward to give the "final kiss." The priests place the casket into the hearse for the procession to the cemetery. Fr. John was laid to rest at Woodmere Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Psa. Elena, who preceded him in death almost 10 years to the day.
Hierodeacon Sebastian recites the Litany for the Dead. "To the Lord belongs the earth and all that it holds." Back at the parish hall, a Pomana (memorial luncheon) was offered in memory of Fr. John & Psa. Elena.
